Lake County, Ohio, Flag

Jun 22nd, 2018

Lake County is located in the northeast region of Ohio along the shore of Lake Erie. It consists of 979 square miles, but 752 square miles is water. Lake County was formed in 1840 from portions of Cuyahoga and Geauga counties. It was named Lake due to its location and the large bodies of water in the county. The city of Painesville serves as the county seat.

There is nothing known about the designer of the county flag or how it was selected. The flag has a white field with an outline of the state of Ohio in the right corner. The building is a lighthouse and 1840 is the year that Lake County was formed.

The Ohio Veterans Plaza at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio, features plaques and accompanying flagpoles from each of the 88 counties in Ohio. The flags were presented at the Ohio Statehouse in 2003 during the Bicentennial flag dedication ceremonies and are now displayed annually.
